What can I do before my first lesson to help me prepare?
Hi and welcome to your pre lesson prep, your first step to getting a full driving licence!
The first thing you need, before your lesson can take place, is to generate a licence check code. This lets your instructor check your licence without you needing to share personal information. You can find out how to do this on the below link. Once you've done this please send the code to your instructor.

Take a bit of time to think about how you like to learn.
Do you like to just give it a go?
Does a demonstration work for you?
Would you like to read up on a subject before you work on the practical side of it?
Do you like pictures, text, a verbal talk through or none of that?
Understanding how you learn is a massive help when learning a new skill or technique.
The guides below will help give you a basic understanding of what you may cover on your first lesson. You could following up your reading by researching videos on the below subjects or by asking fellow drivers for their thoughts. Reading things often doesn't work for a lot of us, in fact very few learners would chose this as their preferred learning method. Do what works for you.
Happy reading and remember if you're not sure about anything or have some questions just give me a bell or drop me a text on 07934860469.

Date: 10/12/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to be able to move the car
I'd like to feel more confident next lesson. My confidence is currently around a 2/10
What am I proud of?

-
I'm really pleased that I was able to move the car
-
My corners really improved throughout the lesson
-
I'm really starting to get to grips with stopping the car
-
I've stopped looking at other cars which has really helped my road position
-
My confidence has increased to a 5/10
What I'd like to work on?

-
I'd like to work on using the accelerator more as sometimes I worry about using it too much
-
I'd like to work on building my confidence
Our plan for next lesson
I'd like to focus on my use of the accelerator
Date: 14/01/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to recap what we did last lesson
I'd like to do some work on using my accelerator
What am I proud of?

-
I'm really pleased that I got to grips with changing gears. It was easier than I thought. We worked on changing gears on the flat, downhill and uphill
-
My stopping has greatly improved, I'm now using the brake pedal with less pressure and I'm not pushing it as far down. This has made it more accurate and smoother
-
I'm now far more controlled when driving around corners. This is as I'm using my brake to keep my car under control
What I'd like to work on?

-
Sometimes I still press my brake pedal a little hard. This results in me stopping suddenly and often at a distance from the give way line which can confuse other drivers. I'd like to work on this.
Our plan for next lesson
I'd like to focus on my use of the brake, specifically using it to stop at the correct places at give way lines.
Date: 21/01/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to focus on using my brake, specifically when stopping at give way lines
What am I proud of?

-
I'm really pleased with my right turns, I now understand when I need to turn and how much I need to steer
-
My use of the brake improved throughout my lesson. I'm now being softer when I press the brake and where I'm stopping is more accurate
-
I feel much more confident when driving now
What I'd like to work on?

-
Sometimes I still press my brake pedal a little hard, I'd like to feel more confident when braking
Our plan for next lesson
I'd like to continue focusing on my use of the brake. We're going to use a new area on our lesson next week.
Date: 28/01/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to feel more confident when braking. I'd also like to look at introducing 3rd gear.
What am I proud of?

-
I'm really pleased with how much my braking improved. I now understand how hard to press the brake for different situations and how to work that out. On the drive home there were no issues with my braking
-
I understand the clutch a lot more which really helps with everything else
-
My use of 3rd gear was great and my downward transitions from 3rd to 2nd really improved as the lesson progressed
What I'd like to work on?

-
I find it hard emerging onto the main road, I'd like to work on this so I feel confident
-
I'd like to do some work on junctions as a whole. I worry that I will be too slow emerging
Our plan for next lesson
Next lesson we're going to focus on junctions. We're going to begin by focusing on a more rapid move off by building acceleration into your move off process. We'll start this on a straight road and then check how it's going by using quiet junctions.
Date: 04/02/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to feel more confident when emerging from a minor road onto a major. I'd currently scale this as a 4/10 and would like to progress to a 6/10 this lesson
What am I proud of?

-
I feel more confident emerging from a minor road. I've started believing in myself and not worrying that it's going to go wrong. I'd now scale it as a 5.5/10
What I'd like to work on?

-
I find it hard emerging onto New Barn Lane. I'd like to have more control over what my feet are doing and hold my clutch at bite as opposed to above bite
Our plan for next lesson
Next lesson I'd like to continue my work on junctions. I'd like to focus on my right turns to feel more confident and in control. I'd also like to start working on increasing my speed.
Date: 11/02/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to continue working on emerging from junctions. I feel I don't go quick enough and this makes me panic as I feel like I'm annoying other drivers. I'd like to feel more confident.
What am I proud of?

-
My right emerge is getting better. I'd now rate it as a 6.5/10. I feel less panicky and more confident. I find I learn from repetition so enjoyed repeating the junction
-
My speed was much better on New Barn Lane, I'm now reaching 30mph
-
By lifting the dead part of the clutch quicker my move off is faster
-
I now understand when to accelerate when moving off which has improved my move off speed.
What I'd like to work on?

-
Sometimes I leave changing down a gear to go around a corner a little late. This leaves me lots to do all at once which can result in me taking the corner on the wrong side of the road
-
Sometimes I stop a little far away from the give way line
Our plan for next lesson
Next lesson I'd like to use the Pitville and New Barn Lane areas to continue to work on emerging from junctions.
Date: 25/02/2021
Lesson Goals
I'd like to continue working on emerging from junctions. I'd also like to work on moving down from 3rd to 2nd gear, I'd like to have more of an order of when to do things. Finally I'd like to work on getting up to the give way line as I sometimes stop a little short.
What am I proud of?

-
My right emerge is getting much better. I'd now rate it as a 7.5/10.
-
I'm really proud that I drove places that aren't typical learner areas and didn't panic
-
My 3rd to 2nd gear changes were great, I'm slowing down sooner which gives me time to do everything without panicking.
-
I'm now getting closer to the give way line
What I'd like to work on?

-
Sometimes I panic at traffic lights which causes me to lift my clutch too quickly and stall
-
Sometimes I steer a little early when turning right which means I enter on the wrong side of the road
Our plan for next lesson
Next lesson I'd like to begin by continuing to look at junction around new barn road and then progress onto working on traffic lights
