Lesson Goals

I'd like to see where we are and make a plan to get test ready
What am I proud of?

  • I feel my planning has greatly improved.  I'm now looking and thinking further ahead which is helping me adapt to changing hazards and situations
  • Judging who has priority around parked cars and who has to wait is now making sense in my head
  • I'm feeling more confident on roundabouts
What I'd like to work on?

  • Sometimes I'm a little slow to move off when the traffic light changes to green
  • I'd like to do more work on roundabouts.  I'd like to understand more about what other cars are doing and make my decision to enter the roundabout sooner

Our plan for next lesson

I'd like to focus on meeting oncoming traffic around parked cars and in narrow streets.  I'd also like to focus on roundabouts.

What can I do before my next lesson to help my learning

I'd strongly recommend focusing on the following.  Try to make each practice session count as opposed to just taking responsibility for driving to somewhere you need to be.  Remember it's not the quantity of the practicing, it's the quality!

Firstly I'd focus on moving off at traffic lights.  Often you prepare to go on green which delays the traffic behind you.  Think about getting your car ready to go on amber and actually moving off on green.  What else can you use to alert your that your light is about to turn to green?  Can you see the lights controlling traffic flow from other directions?  If so there's a high possibility that when these lights turn red, yours will turn amber/green.

Secondly I'd work on planning ahead.  This about the furthest point you can see and what's developing there.  Are cars braking?  Are traffic lights changing?  Is there a situation developing?  Are there parked cars?  Is there oncoming traffic?  All of this information will help you plan ahead.  Remember if a situation is stressful, when driving, it's likely you didn't see it developing in time.  The fault is almost always a planning fault as opposed it a fault dealing with the situation.

Routes you may find useful to work on

I think Experienced Route 7 will really help you focus on your forward planning and judging meeting situations (parked cars)

Mock Test Results

The following are your serious faults: 6

  • When moving off in traffic, on Tewksbury Rd you stalled as you left your car in 3rd gear
  • When carrying out the parallel park manoeuvre you failed to carry all around observations before moving the car
  • On 2 occasions you drove over the speed limit
  • When moving off you forgot to check your left mirror and almost hit a cyclist
  • You stopped to keep a yellow box clear but when it cleared you failed to move off which confused other drivers

Your driver faults: 6

  • On 3 occasions you failed to check your mirrors when going around parked cars
  • You were hesitant when leaving a junction
  • Your speed was slightly over the speed limit on one occasion
  • On one occasion your braking was very harsh

What can I do before my next lesson to help my learning

I'd recommend taking a look at any of the experienced practice routes.

I'd recommend focusing on the below:

All of your development areas identified from your mock

Remember to check your left mirror and indicate before leaving a roundabout

Remember to indicate before you pull over to park
