Assessment Lesson
What do I need to do before my assessment lesson?
The first thing you need, before your lesson can take place, is to generate a licence check code.
You can find out how to do this on the below link.
Please send the check code, along with the last 8 characters of your driving licence to your instructor.
View or share your driving licence information - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The charge for an assessment lesson is £60, this needs to be paid in full, via bank transfer, upon booking to secure your lesson slot.
Your instructor will send you all the details.
Any lessons cancelled with more than 48 hours notice are fully refundable. Any lessons cancelled within 48 hours, off the lesson start time, will be chargeable in full.
What could I practice before my assessment lesson?
If you're currently practicing in your own or someone else's car I'd recommend looking at any of the Blue Monkey Experienced routes.
You can find these HERE
These routes will help prepare you for the type of challenges and roads you're likely to face on your driving test and give you an idea of what to expect.
Your Driving Test
Your driving test will last for approximately 40 minutes. You'll need to bring your provisional licence and theory pass certificate with you in order for your test to go ahead.
Your test will take the following format:
Eyesight Test
You will need to demonstrate that you can read a car number plate from 20 meters away.
Tell Me Question
You can find these HERE
This under the bonnet GUIDE will help you revise some of the tell me questions.
Independent Drive
You will need to either follow the sat nav or directional sign posts for approximately 20 minutes.
You can find the DVSA guidance on this HERE
Remember this is a test of your ability to drive safely whilst driving completely independently, it is not a test of your ability to follow directions.
Taking a wrong turn or missing a direction will not result in a fault or test fail, providing you do so safely.
Show Me Question
You can find these HERE
Manoeuvres
You will need to be able to carry out one of the following 3 driving test manoeuvres, if your test is at Cheltenham test centre.
Forward Bay Park
Parallel Park
Pull up on the right and reverse 2 to 3 car spaces
If your test is at any other test centre you may be asked to complete a reverse bay park.
Emergency Stop
One in 5 tests will also be asked to carry out an emergency stop.
After your assessment lesson
After your lesson we will make one of the following recommendations:
Your driving is not at test standard, we recommend postponing your test
It is your choice if you wish to do this however we will not be able to provide you with a car for your test or further tuition.
An intensive course
If we feel you could reach the required standard, before your test, we'll offer an intensive course.
An agreement to provide an intensive course does not guarantee that we will provide you with a car to take to your test or accompany you to test. This is dependant on you reaching the required test standard prior to your test.
Your driving is at test standard
We'll be happy to accompany you to test and provide you with a car to take your test in

My Highlights

-
Your positioning improved hugely throughout your lesson, you achieved this by raising your line of vision and looking where you wanted to steer the car
-
Your speed hugely improved throughout your lesson. Your now driving at an appropriate speed for the road on most occasions
-
Your gear changes are smoother and more accurate. You achieved this by allowing the gear stick to travel through neutral before selecting the gear you wanted
-
Your steering hugely improved and you are now using your hands independently of each other
-
Your use of the central mirror has hugely improved and you're starting to consider the traffic behind you
My Development Areas

-
Your position when turning into roads needs to be worked on. Sometimes you're driving too fast which causes you to take the corner wide and enter the other side of the road
-
Your forward bay park is a little fast, this compromises your control and positioning meaning you're stopping abruptly and to the right of the bay
-
Sometimes you enter a traffic light controlled junction a little early when turning right. This means you can end up in a queue of traffic waiting to turn right and have the potential to get stuck in the roundabout
-
There is still work to do on your positioning around the Prestbury double roundabout
-
Sometimes you forget to indicate left when leaving a roundabout
The outcome of your assessment lesson
I think your driving is of a far higher standard than would be expected for the hours tuition you've had and whilst there is a still a lot of work to do I don't think a test on 25th Jan is unrealistic.
To get you ready for a test on 25th Jan I feel you need a minimum 12 hours tuition plus private practice which I'm happy to support with online progress logs from your lessons and suggested routes. I'd be able to accommodate 3 intensive sessions of 4 hours each in the lead up to your test.
Jan 4th 13:00 - 17:00
Jan 11th 16:00 - 20:00 (this can start earlier and from Cleeve school if easier)
Jan 18th 16:00 - 20:00 (this can start earlier and from Cleeve school if easier)
I charge £200 per intensive lesson including online support and practice routes to help your private practice in between session. The total cost will be £600 for your course plus a test day fee dependant on how long you choose you do before your test.
All fees are payable in advance, via bank transfer, and your course will only be booked in once payment has been received. Courses are non refundable if cancelled within 48 hours of their start date/time. Any courses cancelled more than 48 hours in advance or due to a national lockdown or local restrictions are fully refundable
Recommendations before taking your test/your intensive course
I'd recommend looking at each of your above development areas and tackling them one at a time. Plan to pull over every few minutes and discuss how you're doing with your supporting driver. What's going well? What would you like to improve on? How will you do that? What support will you need?
I'd recommend also focusing on the following routes. These are all routes that are similar to the areas you may be tested on in your driving test and mirror the work we did on your assessment lesson.
Intermediate Practice Route 3 - The Prestbury double roundabouts
Experienced Practice Route 7 - Narrow Streets, meeting traffic
You can also use any other practice routes in the learner area. All the intermediate and experienced routes work on skills you'll need for your practical driving test.
